Ring Light from Stellar Lighting Systems Review

Lately I have been trying to teach myself more about continuous lighting and the different systems that are out there for photographers. Needless to say my head is about to explode with reading up on all the different lights and techniques out there. I am a firm believer in there is no right or wrong way to do something if it works for you and the vision you have for your photograph.

I wish I could afford strobes right now, or be able to be sponsored by companies like Profoto and Elinchrome, but until that day comes, I think I found my new love in the Stellar Lighting System 18″ ring light.

I first saw the effect of this light on a makeup artist’s Instagram and I loved how the light wrapped around the face and the catch light that it gave inside the eyes. I sent them a message and they directed me to the website.  After many days of research on the company and their products I decided to give it a try. I ordered the 18″ ring light and 2 stellar linear light panels (20 watts 2000 lumen output each) for kick.

I just got them a week ago so I haven’t had too much time to play with them yet.  I pulled my boyfriend Bret into studio to test the lights to make sure they worked and that I was able to get the effect that I wanted and desired. As of right now…I love what this light is doing for me! I have more test stuff lined up to make sure this light will be my work horse and main light source. One of the selling points as well was that it came with a dimmer. I will post more test shots with this lighting set up as I photograph them.

I would love to know what works for you and the lighting systems you have used. Please feel free to leave comments below : )
